How it connects to your computers
The web dashboard doesn’t track anything itself, and it doesn’t add up your time either. Vetroscope on your computer works out your totals, charts, and reports, and uploads them each time it syncs with Vetroscope Cloud. The dashboard shows what your computer uploaded. That’s why its numbers always match the app — and why a few things need one of your computers to be on.
How fresh the numbers are
Section titled “How fresh the numbers are”- Your computer checks in with Vetroscope Cloud every 15 seconds while it runs, so the dashboard usually trails the app by seconds.
- Today’s Timeline is live. In the Calendar’s Week, the current week’s blocks can trail by a few minutes.
- With more than one computer signed in, the dashboard keeps updating from the one you’re using. A computer that’s asleep can leave it a few minutes behind until it wakes up.
- The account menu shows Dashboard updated with the time and the computer it came from.
If none of your computers is on, the dashboard still opens and shows everything as of the last update. The status at the bottom reads Offline · showing the last results if your browser can’t reach Vetroscope Cloud.
The first time
Section titled “The first time”Right after you turn on Vetroscope Cloud, your computer uploads your history a bit at a time. You’ll see Loading history at the bottom of the page until it’s finished, and “This day is still on its way” on days that haven’t arrived yet.
Crossing midnight
Section titled “Crossing midnight”If your computer hasn’t synced since midnight — say it’s still asleep — the dashboard follows the real date anyway: Today and today’s goals start at zero, and Yesterday, this week, month, and year line up with the calendar.
Changes you make on the web
Section titled “Changes you make on the web”Some changes save straight away; others are handed to one of your computers to apply, because they change how your tracked time is counted.
| Change | How it’s saved |
|---|---|
| Notes, note folders, events, and alerts | Saved immediately and synced to your computers. |
| Tags, tagging, goals, ignore lists, and customized apps | Applied by a computer running Vetroscope. |
While a computer applies a change, you see a progress message such as Tagging “Figma” with “Client A”…. Tagging a long range can take a moment, because the computer has to recount your history and upload it again.
If none of your computers is open, you’ll see “Saved. It’ll apply when Vetroscope is open on a computer.” The change waits in Alerts and applies the next time Vetroscope opens on any of your computers.
Reports
Section titled “Reports”Reports are put together by Vetroscope on your computer. Reports for today, yesterday, any of the last 52 weeks, any of the last 12 months, and the past 12 months are prepared ahead of time, so they open even when no computer is on. Custom date ranges are only available in the app’s own report generator.
If no computer is online and a report isn’t ready yet, the dashboard says Open Vetroscope to create reports.
Time zones
Section titled “Time zones”The Calendar and Timeline lay days out in your browser’s time zone, but your days were recorded in your computer’s time zone. If they differ — you’re travelling, or using a browser set to another zone — the Calendar and Timeline show a notice instead of day data, because blocks and totals would land on the wrong days. Home and Charts aren’t affected.
What stays in the app
Section titled “What stays in the app”A few things only work in the desktop app, because they control one particular computer or change the time it recorded:
- Pausing and resuming tracking.
- Dispute idle time and Dispute time block on the Timeline. Idle regions still show on the web.
- The Timeline’s device filter — on the web, the Timeline always shows all your computers together.
- Connecting or disconnecting Google Calendar. Google events you’ve already synced still appear, labeled Google Calendar.
- Vetroscope Chat, Quick Search, the Local API, and app settings like idle timeout and appearance.
Keep your computers up to date
Section titled “Keep your computers up to date”New dashboard features often need the matching app version on your computer. When one doesn’t have it yet, the dashboard says “Update Vetroscope on [computer] to see this here.” Update from Settings → About → Check for Updates.
