Timeline

The Timeline shows a full day as blocks on a time axis — every app and breakdown in its own lane, idle gaps visible, tags as block colors. Open it with the Timeline button in the Home header; it runs in its own window.

  • Pan — hold Space or middle-click and drag.
  • Zoom — Option/Ctrl + scroll (pinch works on a Mac trackpad).
  • Lane height — Cmd/Alt + scroll.
  • Change day — ←/→ arrow keys, or the date picker in the top bar (days with data get a dot).
  • Jump to Now — the button in the bottom bar returns you to the live edge. The live clock sits next to it, pulsing while tracking is active, along with a Pause button.

The bottom-left total is the day’s active time — the same number Home and Charts show. The ? opens the built-in Using the Timeline guide.

  • Idle Regions — show or hide the shaded idle stretches.
  • Merge Blocks — join adjacent blocks of the same app into one continuous run for a decluttered, high-level read. Merged totals are approximate; hovering a merged block lists every tag inside it. Runs with different tags stay separate when merging is off.
  • Cursor — a crosshair with the exact time under your pointer.

Short gaps caused by briefly switching to an ignored app bridge automatically so one block doesn’t split into two — display only, your totals don’t change.

Two right-click tools correct the record — both update your real totals:

  • Dispute idle time — for gaps where you were actually present (a meeting, reviewing a cut). Available when the same app or breakdown borders both sides of the idle gap; those gaps show a small bridge glyph in the corner. The fill carries the surrounding activity’s tag.
  • Dispute time block — the reverse: removes a short block (3 minutes or less) surrounded by idle, like a laptop that woke itself overnight. Undo is in the toast, and the removal syncs to your other devices.

Blocks are colored by tag, and a block ends where a tag switch happens. The Tags panel on the right rail lists your tag tree — click one to zoom to and highlight its blocks; parent tags roll up their children.

Select blocks directly (click, drag a box, Shift-click to add) and tag the selection. You’ll be asked whether to tag these blocks only or also keep tagging new activity like them going forward. Right-click a lane’s label to Solo it — everything else dims.

Events are your own annotations on the day — a meeting, a deadline, a gym break. Right-click anywhere on the timeline to add one at that time; drag to give it a duration (a region). From the Events panel you can show or hide them, dim them, and minimize individual events to thin bars when a busy day gets crowded. Events also appear on the Calendar.
