AI Apps

AI apps like Claude and ChatGPT can connect to your Vetroscope account and answer questions about how you spend your time. Most answers come from Vetroscope Cloud. Some questions need one of your computers instead:

  • a custom date range, like “between March 3 and March 12”;
  • a time of day or days of the week, like “9 to 5 on weekdays”;
  • one computer’s time over a long period;
  • your window titles, your listening history, or when you usually work;
  • what you’re doing right now.

Settings → MCP decides whether this computer answers those questions.

Use Allow MCP connection to this device in Settings → MCP.

  • This computer answers only while Vetroscope is running on it and the switch is on.
  • Each computer has its own switch. Turning it off here doesn’t change your other computers.
  • If none of your computers can answer, the AI app tells you why — for example that your computers are off, or that the switch is off.
  • On for computers that use Cloud Sync with sign-in recovery (the default). Vetroscope Cloud already holds your activity there, so nothing new is shared.
  • Off for computers that use end-to-end encryption, or that don’t use Cloud Sync (only Home Sync, or no sync at all). It stays off until you turn it on.
  • Turning on end-to-end encryption turns it off again.
  • Once you turn it on or off yourself, it stays that way.

When an AI app asks something this computer answers, Vetroscope passes the question to this computer and the answer back to the AI app. The question and the answer go through Vetroscope in plain text, and Vetroscope doesn’t keep them. Answers can include window titles and what’s in front of you right now.

With the switch on, Vetroscope can pass questions to this computer and read its answers, even with end-to-end encryption on. That’s why it starts off for end-to-end encryption.

With the switch off on every computer, AI apps get only what Vetroscope Cloud can answer. That’s nothing if you don’t use Cloud Sync, or if you connected the AI app with Allow from my computer only.

A computer that doesn’t sync answers only for the time tracked on that computer, and the AI app is told so.

The Status line under the switch shows:

  • Ready — this computer can answer.
  • Connecting… — it’s on and connecting to Vetroscope.
  • Needs Vetroscope Pro or a trial — answering AI apps is part of Pro.
  • Off — the switch is off.

The section lists the AI apps that asked this computer something today, for example “Claude: 12 questions today, last at 14:05”. The list starts again each day.

If you don’t recognise an app, disconnect it at mcp.vetroscope.com/connections. That page lists every AI app connected to your account.

The AI app says none of your computers are online. Vetroscope isn’t running on any computer with the switch on. Open Vetroscope on a computer signed in to the same account, check that Allow MCP connection to this device is on, then ask again.

The AI app says “Allow MCP connection to this device” is turned off. The switch is off on every computer that’s running. Turn it on in Settings → MCP on one of them.

The AI app says your computer needs a newer Vetroscope. That computer runs a version from before AI apps could ask it. Update Vetroscope there, then ask again.

The AI app says the connection was made before Vetroscope could answer from your computers. It was connected before this feature existed. Remove Vetroscope from the AI app, then connect it again.
