Extension troubleshooting

The popup says “Not paired” or sits on “Connecting…”

Section titled “The popup says “Not paired” or sits on “Connecting…””

Cause: the extension can’t reach the Vetroscope desktop app.

Fix, in order:

  1. Is Vetroscope running? The extension only works while the app is in your tray. Launch it and re-check the popup a few seconds later.
  2. Restart the browser. Browsers load the pairing bridge at startup — if the extension was installed before Vetroscope, a restart picks it up.
  3. Update the app. Pairing fixes ship in app updates (Settings → About → Check for Updates) — worth doing before deeper digging, and no extension update is usually needed.
  4. Safari only: confirm the extension is enabled in Safari → Settings → Extensions, and open the Vetroscope for Safari companion app once after installing.

Cause: usually one of the quiet switches.

Fix: check, in the extension popup, that it isn’t Paused and the site isn’t in Ignored sites; in the app, that Track web browsing is on (Settings → Activity Tracking) and the browser isn’t in an ignore list. Remember tracking follows the active tab of the focused window — a browser in the background only contributes media, not browsing time.

Cause: media reporting has its own switches.

Fix: confirm Track music is on, and for links, Capture media links (both in Settings → Activity Tracking). A muted tab that produces no sound may not count as playing on some sites.

Report a bug — mention the browser name and version, and what the popup’s status dot shows.
